The Pillars of Our Institution
The story of Kodava Samaja Bangalore, from a small gathering of families in 1911 to a thriving cultural hub, is deeply intertwined with the benevolence of our founding patrons. Their guidance and vital support provided the institutional strength we needed to put down permanent roots in Vasanthnagar. Today, we proudly recognise our Chief Patron, Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, and our Patron, Maharaja Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar. Their intertwined legacies remain forever etched into the foundation of our Ainmane.
Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, OBE
As the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa stands as a towering figure in national history. Yet alongside his legendary military service, his heart remained fiercely dedicated to the unity and upliftment of the Kodava community.
His visionary leadership as our Chief Patron was the catalyst for giving the Samaja its permanent home. In an act of immense generosity, Field Marshal Cariappa donated a 1-acre parcel of land in Vasanthnagar, which had been gifted to him by the Maharaja of Mysore, to Kodava Samaja Bangalore. His unyielding integrity and immense pride in his roots continue to inspire generations of young Kodavas.
Maharaja Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar
The 25th Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore, Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, was a celebrated champion of arts, culture, and community institutions. His gracious patronage played a foundational role in establishing our physical presence in the city.
The Maharaja gifted 1 acre of prime land to Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, which subsequently became the very ground upon which the Samaja was built. His benevolence stands as a lasting testament to the historic and harmonious relationship between the Royal House of Mysore and the people of Kodagu.
